Josephine reacts to the ballerinas of Hiplet! Hiplet is a dance style that was created in order to make ballet more accessible to all people! It is a mix between hip hop dance, and classical ballet, including pointe work. The Hiplet Ballerinas auditioned for season 16 of America's Got Talent, so of course Josephine had to check it out! These dancers are extremely passionate, not only about dance, but also about making ballet and the dance world more inclusive! This week Josephine reacts to the, highly requested, video of The Rybka Twins trying acro tricks IN POINTE SHOES! First off, PLEASE DON'T TRY THIS AT HOME. These girls are very strong and incredibly well trained in both ballet and acrobatics :) The twins begin by trying some basic acro tricks and then they slowly increase the difficulty. Being hypermobile and double jointed are NOT the same thing! This week, Josephine fit Shea Hancock, a freshman dance major at USC Kaufman who is suuuper bendy! Shea mentioned that growing up, people thought she was just double jointed, but in reality, her hypermobility can be assessed & treated. While these hyperextended lines are often highly sought-after in the ballet world, it can be dangerous and shorten a dancer's career if not taken care of properly.
