Get to the Pointe

Ballet is so beautiful, so ethereal, so....challenging! And with great challenge comes great success...and failure. There's no way to achieve greatness without so much practice, and trial and error. And sometimes error can be hilarious! In a world that can seem hypercompetitve and stressful, it's healthy to be able to laugh at yourself. Even better when you can share the giggles with everyone! What started as a cringe challenge has just becoming the cringiest of the ballet internet. And we like it. On this week's episode of "Pointe Shoe Fitter Reacts," Josephine looks at some truly horrifying tik toks. Nothing like a little scare to spice up the spooky season and prepare for the holidays. Of course you have your classic cups, dead pointe shoes, and possibly worst of all...the bare knuckle/toe standing. Brb, gotta throw up. Which clip did you think was the scariest? The ballet internet has given us cringey cups, beautiful dancing, and for this episode  - things dancers do! We love relatable ballet and pointe shoe content. It makes us feel seen and heard. From toe pads to crazy stretching/flexibility, to long day at competitions, these are the dance experiences that bring us together. Isn't it amazing how pointe shoes bring us all together? Ya know, it's a dancer thing. Which of these things do you do? 

We've seen the comments. We know what you want. The 'pointe shoe fitter reacts' series started with ballet tik toks. And that created the lore of cups - non dancers (and some trained dancers) using cups with socks of them to use them as 'pointe shoes.'  And the birth of pointe shoe cups led to Josephine's trauma and cringe era...which will likely never end. When ballet gets broadcasted on television, there's a formula and we know it now.  Take an outstanding ballerina human, give them some non dancers. Teach and/or challenge them to do some ballet, then throw them into some pointe shoes. Attempt to go en pointe so they feel some pain, laugh, teach them a few 8 counts of choreography - usually from The Nutcracker. And make lots of jokes in between. So we know this format, and we keep watching it. When done well, it can be lighthearted, informational, and sweet. But at what pointe does a fun gimmick turn into...
