Get to the Pointe

This week, we had Josephine watch the 2010 Australian TV series, "Dance Academy."  If you're in the states, you likely found this series on YouTube, in the ballet corner of the internet where we live. Josephine watched snippets of Season 1, Episode 2 "Week Zero," which follows main character, country girl Tara during her first week at the prestigious academy. There's lots of drama of course, between a boy being bullied for being put en pointe, Tara disobeying her ballet teacher, and even, a pointe shoe fight! How will Josephine react? To kick off the new year, Josephine shows how to sew the ribbons and elastics on your pointe shoes! This is a long, overdue video but hope it can help any dancers who just earned their ballet boots. There are many ways to sew pointe shoes, but Josephine shares the very common whip stitch method with a single loop elastic & stretch ribbon. This week we decided NOT to traumatize Josephine, and instead had her react to a sweet video of kids meeting a ballerina! This video ticked all the boxes in the "wholesome" category and we even see Josephine shed a few tears when one of the kids reminds her of her little brother! Although the ballerinas does mistakenly say that her pointe shoes are made out of wood (LOL), this is one of the first reactions where Josephine did not have to cringe and watch through her fingers the entire time. From the ever-so-satisfying pointe shoe ASMR, to hilarious skits about ballet, to horrifying pointe-shoe-high-heeled boots.
