So how can The Pointe Shop sustain itself as a company all about shoes? Well, like the title says, these shoes are integral to the art & a dancer's career! Did you know that Josephine used to own a full dance retail store - with tap shoes, jazz shoes and all sorts of dance apparel? The Pointe Shop is the only dance retail store of its kind: our primary focus is pointe shoes and fitting them! Over the years we have added ballet flats, tights, and some leotards due to dancer and parent demand. Merch also, just some small things...

'Tis the season!  Not holiday, but Nutcracker Season. While the rest of the world may be present shopping and hanging Christmas lights, the ballet world is in rehearsal...every weekend. So to kick off the nuttiest time of the year, the internet's resident pointe shoe fairy is here to help y'all get in the spirit! It is so fun to see all the different versions of Nutcracker that everyone does - from local mom and pop studios, to the big, professional ballet companies. Such a great way for young dancers to learn some iconic repertory and get some more stage/performance time....

Josephine reviews the Freed Studio! The Freed Studio is made on a slightly tapered last. These pointe shoes are made with the turn-shoe method, so they are made inside out, then turned around, creating pleats on the bottom of the shoe!  The shoe is then "banged out" to help make the pleats more flat on the bottom of the shoe. The Freed Studio can come with both a V or a U-shaped throat, but it always comes with a cotton drawstring.
