'Tis the season!  Not holiday, but Nutcracker Season. While the rest of the world may be present shopping and hanging Christmas lights, the ballet world is in rehearsal...every weekend. So to kick off the nuttiest time of the year, the internet's resident pointe shoe fairy is here to help y'all get in the spirit! It is so fun to see all the different versions of Nutcracker that everyone does - from local mom and pop studios, to the big, professional ballet companies. Such a great way for young dancers to learn some iconic repertory and get some more stage/performance time....

Josephine reviews the Freed Studio! The Freed Studio is made on a slightly tapered last. These pointe shoes are made with the turn-shoe method, so they are made inside out, then turned around, creating pleats on the bottom of the shoe!  The shoe is then "banged out" to help make the pleats more flat on the bottom of the shoe.
