Get to the Pointe

This week's Pointe Shoe Fitter Reacts to Ballet Tik Tok has some great nuggets! It's like mining in the ballet internet mines haha. First and foremost, an update from Eva Nys about Maya Schonbrun's "toe pad." Note the quotation marks. And towards the end of this episode, also an amazing new take on how to sew criss cross elastics on your pointe shoes!  A nice mix of ballet entertainment and pointe shoe hacks this time around! Sushirina stayed quiet while the studio sparkled around her. She wrapped her ribbons alone, just out of reach– like she always did. She dance beautifully– always behind someone else. Hiding in the back felt safer than being in the spotlight. When no one noticed her, the Pointe Shoe Fairy did. She saw the quite strength Sushirina tried so hard to protect. "It's okay to let someone in. You don't have to do it all alone."  She stepped forward, and this time, someone saw her. Her dancing didn't change– but the way she held herself did. Pizzarina twirled through class, cracking joked and stealing giggles. Her pepperoni hat wobbled as she mad ballet feel like a party. One comment– sharp and cold– knocked the smiled off her face. Suddenly, being funny didn't feel so fun. The Pointe Shoe Fairy floated down in a swirl of light. She didn't laugh. She didn't scold. She helped Pizzarina pause and reflect. "I joke so no one sees I'm scared," she told her friend. "You're enough– silly or serious," came the quiet reply. This time, Pizzarina danced with heart and humor. A wink, a turn, a cheer– because she finally...

The marley groaned, her ribbons frayed– twelve more fouettes, and perfect still our of reach. Mid-turn, her foot slipped– and he confidence cracked. Everyone saw. Pretzelrina wished she could disappear. "Mistakes aren't failures," said the Pointe Shoe Fairy. "They're how you rise." Even with teary eyes Pretzelrina felt something shift. She turned, wobbled... and laughed. This time, the goal wasn't to be perfect– it was to keep going. Burgerina's heart sank. The solo went to her best friend. She smiled– but it didn't feel real. She said "Congrats," but clapped late, laughed less, and skipped lunch. "Her shine doesn't dim yours," sad the Pointe Shoe Fairy. "Real friends clap – even from the wings." Spotlights move. But friendship stays. Clap – even when it's not your turn to shine.
