Q&A Friday

ambassador ballet pointe pointe shoes Q&A thepointeshop

by: Sophia Ortega

Welcome back to Q&A Friday! Today our Ambassador is 15-year-old Grace Curry. A lover of Russian Pointe, ABT, and growing at her own pace, Curry has a bright future ahead of her. Read below to see what she has to share.

Where do you train?

I train at A&A Ballet in Chicago, Illinois.

What pointe shoe do you wear and why?

I wear Russian Pointe Bravas. I love wearing Russian Pointes because I feel like they  give me a lot of support and stability while I’m dancing. I also like how they feel on my feet.

Are you currently at a summer intensive?

Yes, I am at the American Ballet Theater summer intensive in New York City. It’s actually my fourth summer here! I always look forward to spending my summers at ABT and learning from so many amazing teachers. Most of them were former dancers with ABT, so it is an incredible experience to take classes and learn from them. I feel like I grow so much every summer.

What has been your favorite dance to perform?

Recently, I danced Aurora in Sleeping Beauty. I really enjoyed rehearsing with my partners and perfecting all the steps with my teachers. Aurora is a very challenging role not only technically, but also artistically. I loved learning how to become a better artist through this role.

What is the best piece of advice you’ve been given?

Focus on yourself and think about your long term goals when you get discouraged. Everyone learns and improves at different paces, and although it can be difficult, it is key to not compare yourself to others. If you work hard and focus on improving a little bit each day, you will eventually see your results.

If you could join any dance company, what would it be?

My dream company would have to be ABT! I admire all of the dancers there so much, and I love all of the repertoire they perform. ABT is such a welcoming environment and it seems like such a great place to build a career.

Any advice you’d like to give to aspiring dancers?

If dance is really what you love to do, you should never give up on it. Try not to get too frustrated with yourself if something does not go right. Everyone has bad days and makes mistakes, but what matters most is that you continue working hard to follow your dreams.  Dance with your heart and the rest will follow.
