Happy Valentine's Day lovelies!
You can find romance in almost any famous ballet: Swan Lake, Romeo and Juliet, Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty. But one of the most romantic is Giselle: the story of love, betrayal and redemption.
If you're not familiar with the story: it's about a beautiful peasant girl named Giselle who falls in love with a handsome young Duke disguised as a peasant. But when she finds out his true identity and that he is betrothed to another, she becomes so devastated, she loses her mind. Her insanity leads to her death. She becomes a ghost and joins spirits of other maidens who died of broken hearts. These spirits, called Wilis, are known to find mortal men wandering in their territory and make them dance to their deaths. So when the young Duke finds himself under the trap of the Wilis, Giselle uses her last power to protect him.
Okay. So it's a little dark. And twisted...
But it's a GORGEOUS ballet and one of the most hauntingly beautiful roles. If you are in Orange County and want to catch American Ballet Theatre's Gillian Murphy and Cory Stearns perform this ballet, check out the Festival Ballet Theatre in March!Festival Ballet Theatre Presents Giselle
